Solar Energy and Other Renewable Energies

To cope with greenhouse effect, major countries in the world are all actively developing and utilizing new renewable energies, including solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy and ocean energy.

Renewable energies in China

China will accelerate the development of renewable energies in accordance with the principle of laying equal emphasis on exportation and local digestion/utilization and on centralized and distributed development. By 2020, the proportion of non-fossil energies in the consumption of primary energies will reach 15%.

1.     Accelerate the development of solar energy power generation.

Promote the construction of photovoltaic bases in an orderly way, conduct construction of local digestion/utilization and outward exportation channels at the same time. Accelerate the construction of distributed photovoltaic power generation application demonstrative zones and steadily implement solar energy thermal power generation demonstrative projects. Strengthen solar energy power generation and grid connection services, encourage large public buildings and facilities and industry parks to conduct roof distributed photovoltaic power generation. By 2020, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power will reach around 100 million kW and the price of photovoltaic power will be equal to the grid sales price.

2.     Vigorously develop wind power.

Highlight the planning and construction of 9 large modern wind power bases and relevant exportation projects in Jiuquan, west of Inner Mongolia, north of Hebei, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Hami and Jiangsu. Vigorously develop distributed wind power in the south and the central east regions and develop offshore wind power steadily. By 2020, the installed capacity of wind power will reach 200 million kW and the price of wind power will be equal to the on-grid price of coal power.

3.     Actively develop geothermal energy, biomass energy and ocean energy.

Adhere to the principle of making overall plans to take all factors into consideration, adjusting measures to local conditions and engaging in diversified development, carry out general surveys to geothermal energy and ocean energy resources in an orderly way, formulate plans for the development and utilization of biomass energy and geothermal energy, actively promote the clean and efficient utilization of geothermal energy, biomass energy and ocean energy, promote biomass energy and geothermal energy heat supply, and carry out geothermal energy power generation and ocean energy power generation demonstrative projects. By 2020, the utilization of geothermal energy shall reach 50 million tons of standard coal.

4.     Actively develop hydro power.

On condition that ecological environment is well protected and the placement of migrants is well handled, promote the construction of large hydro power bases in an active and orderly way, mainly by leveraging Jinsha River, Yalong River, Dadu River and Lancang River in Southwest China. Develop medium and small power stations according to local conditions, launch the planning and construction of pumped-storage power stations and strengthen the comprehensive utilization of water resources. By 2020, the installed capacity of conventional hydro power shall reach around 350 million kW.
